REVIEWS

The following reviews are a small collection of published and customer reviews that Carmen bar de tapas has had over the years.

Carmen is one of those little places that you hear about through word of mouth or simply stumble upon one evening and want to visit again and again. It welcomes you warmly and expertly transports your tastebuds to Spanish shores with its diverse range of traditional dishes.

Tapas that tastes great, with wine and atmosphere to match. Tapas from over there…over here. I love Carmen – yummy food, tasty wine, and a cool atmosphere that makes you want go back, and not actually leave when you are there. After exiting Clapham Common tube, it’s right there…cheap and cheerful, a welcoming and pleasingly worn look, with its simple wooden tables and chairs, yellow frontage and pictures of bullfighters.

Decorations inside Carmen
I have been a devoted fan of Carmen’s for ten years and it caused me a great deal of upset to read a bad review of such an amazing and in terms, of customer care, a truly, wonderful restaurant. The magical part of becoming a regular and this happens as soon as you negotiate the threshold, is you are treated with warmth, understanding and kindness. Then comes the service. Always superb. Always polite and dignified.
The urge to participate in the ritual of eating out is irresistible because it purges, assures and allows us to belong to a busy, vivid, family atmosphere. I beg everyone to experience this rare and generous environment. It is a national treasure I would like to keep to myself and friends, but now feel moved to speak out and champion the hardworking staff and Manager. Thank you.

Decorations on the walls inside Carmen

Stumbled across this little gem whilst out with friends in Clapham. Was busy and buzzing – great atmosphere. Impressed by the varied menu, nice staff and attentive service. Food was delicious and well presented and arrived promptly even though we were a big group. Stayed till late drinking and was made to feel welcome to stay. Will return at the earliest opportunity – good value for money and highly recommended.

All round excellent experience. It was busy, even on a Monday night, but the service was brilliant (how refreshing!). Great ambiance, and it made me forget I was in Clapham. Loved the cod!

A couple enjoying their meal in Carmen
If you are looking for some tapas and sangria, then look no further. By far one of the finest tapas restaurants in London, and it suits both a big birthday dinner or a romantic meal for two. It’s very good value and has the added bonus of being 30 seconds from Clapham Common tube station.

We’ve been coming to Carmen for years now and we cannot find a better place in Clapham. Unpretentious, friendly, good Spanish food and very well priced Riojas … just perfect for a Sunday lunch!

A quiet weekend lunch in the restaurant
This place is amazing.
For a long time I had not been able to find authentic Spanish food at affordable prices. Carmen seems to hit every single nail on the head. The food is amazing, the service is really good, the sangria even better and the atmosphere resembles that of a night out eating in Madrid. Brilliant place. Try the prawns….

Friendly staff sharing a funny moment
A pleasantly airy, easygoing little tapas bar beside Clapham Common, Carmen makes a handy standby for a relaxed evening meal or a Sunday afternoon snack. The tiles and bare-wood decor tends towards Spanish-rustic, but the list of around 40 tapas is new rather than old style, with a large number of vegetarian options and salads. The wine list is shortish but very well priced, and a range of Spanish fruit liqueurs and brandies is a house speciality. Coffee too is above average.
